“Emotionally I am close to them”

Alexandru Chipciu, the left defender of the leader Universitatea Cluj, was offered last summer by his former club, FCSB, but in the end he made the decision to stay with the Transylvanian group, to which he declares “emotionally close”.

The transfer was not completed also due to the fact that Gigi Becali did not want to pay an amount of money for the player, who is under contract with the team from Cluj Arena.

Alexandru Chipciu, the left defender from Cluj University, received an offer last summer from his former club, FCSB, but in the end he made the decision to stay with the Transylvanian group, to which he says he is “emotionally close”.

The transfer was not perfected also due to the fact that Gigi Becali did not want to pay an amount of money for the player, as he was under contract with the Cluj Arena team. The footballer reveals that he would have liked to work with manager Mihai Stoica, assistant Mihai Pintilii and Vlad Chiricheș one more time.

“I would definitely have liked to work with MM again, from a sporting point of view it stimulates me. I would have met again all the people I was there with: Chiricheș, Pintilii, the cook Pele, the masseurs, the docks and so on. Emotionally, I am close to them and always will be. I spoke with Becali once, but on another topic, not about this matter.

The transfer did not take place, because Becali did not want to pay a transfer fee in exchange for Chipciu. “I still had a contract with U Cluj and there was no way I could leave without a transfer fee. I was the captain of the team… it was impossible. I had no way to argue with them, to force them to leave, I couldn’t do that to those from U Cluj.

“And, honestly, I feel good in Cluj, it’s my home. I feel at home. I am divided between two places: Bucharest and Cluj, in both places I feel at home. I also feel from Cluj, having lived there for so many years and also having a house in Cluj. In addition, the situation was complex – it meant moving the girls as well, more complicated”, stated Chipciu la gsp.ro.

Alex Chipciu claims that he was once close to returning to FCSB, in the summer of 2023, and denies that, due to his advanced age, it could still be possible to end his career in the red-blue shirt. On the other hand, he reveals that he will soon extend his the agreement with “U” Cluj.

“There was another discussion (no – with FCSB) also two years ago, after my first season at U Cluj. Then I was a little afraid of what might have happened. They were going to take the championship, so there were some thoughts that didn’t help me.

Basically, I don’t like comebacks, even if they can be positive sometimes. I talked with MM before, but the problem did not arise.
