The roots of the Aarikka brand can be found in beautiful Scandinavia, where a brand that brings joy to people was born in 1954 in the middle of Finnish nature. The whole story started with ordinary buttons. Designer Kaija Aarikka couldn’t find the right buttons for her dress for a long time. In the end, she designed them herself, which later gave rise to the brand itself. From these fun and original buttons, the story quickly turned to jewellery. The roundness of the buttons also influenced the subsequent appearance of the jewelry. All jewelry is made from environmentally friendly raw materials, mainly from birch, maple, pine wood and other natural materials from the mysterious wilderness. Scandinavian jewelry design combines playfulness with coziness.
When making jewelry, the designer found working with light maple and birch wood, which are most suitable for the subsequent manipulation of the jewelry – painting with bright colors, the most successful. In contrast, pine wood evokes a pleasant atmosphere and is ideal for the possibility of more expressive processing. An individual approach to jewelry is a matter of course during production. Manual skills are a valuable part of Finnish identity and culture. With its unique processing and chosen material, each piece of jewelry completes the whole and defines its owner.
