ERC warns Illa that without “resounding progress” in individual financing they will not negotiate the budgets

ERC Secretary General Marta Rovira warned the PSC on Saturday that if it does not comply with the agreement for the investiture of Salvador Illa as president of the Generalitat and there is no “conclusive progress” on financing, “it will be practically impossible to enter into the negotiation of the budgets.”

Speaking at the last ordinary National Council of the Republicans before the extraordinary congress in November that will elect the new leadership, Rovira said that if the PSC does not comply with the agreements included in the investiture pact, “we will reach the end of the road.”

“We will be able to move forward as the agreement progresses, as we have done with the PSOE in recent years, and we were able to begin negotiating Illa’s investiture because the PSOE began to comply with the pending agreements for Pedro Sánchez’s investiture. And we must continue to apply the same logic,” he said.

Rovira has acknowledged that part of the party “still does not see this pact clearly”, which was submitted to a vote by its members in August, and has assured that the leadership signed it “thinking of the citizens and of Catalonia” and that it has provided two “important keys”: that of the fund and that of the nation, concretized in the measures agreed for the defense of Catalan.

“We will be watching this agreement closely from the opposition, ERC will monitor it completely to ensure that it is fulfilled down to the last comma,” he said, and pointed out that financing, housing and the transfer of Rodalies are essential priorities. “We will be in the opposition,” he said, “to maintain our position of strength and to ensure that (the transfer) does not remain a dead letter.”

He also thanked the party officials for the “exemplary transfer” of government that they have carried out, and recalled that ERC asked the senior officials to leave their posts and that it is awaiting the latest dismissals.
