Erdogan welcomed the efforts of his “dear friend”, Olaf Scholz, who is visiting Istanbul

The chancellor, on his second visit to Turkey since taking office, rejects the Turkish president’s use of the term “genocide” and maintains that Israel has the right to defend itself but must respect international law.

The opportunities of the ceasefire must be used to release the hostages held by Hamas

Olaf Scholz stressed.

More than 50,000 people were killed, regardless of whether they were children, women or the elderly

– answered Erdogan, who found the proceedings initiated by the International Criminal Court against Israel under the title of “genocide” to be justified. At the same time, the Turkish president highly appreciated the efforts of the German chancellor to lift the restrictions on the delivery of weapons to Turkey.

Ankara hopes to make progress on the purchase of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets to make up for delays in the sale of US F-16s, the sale of which was approved by Washington earlier this year.

Turkey is a member of NATO, so we always make decisions that lead to specific deliveries

said the chancellor.

The delivery of Eurofighter aircraft requires the agreement of the four countries involved in production – the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Spain.

“There were some problems in the past. I really appreciate the efforts of my dear friend Scholz to find solutions,” said Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to the German weekly Der Spiegel, Berlin recently authorized significant arms shipments to Ankara worth hundreds of millions of euros, including anti-aircraft missiles. After the Turkish offensive in Syria in 2016, Germany significantly reduced arms exports to Turkey.

Germany is home to the largest Turkish diaspora in the world, around three million people. The trade between the two countries has reached 50 billion dollars, Erdogan said on Saturday, who expressed hope that the value of bilateral trade will increase to 60 billion dollars.
