Eric Trappier takes control of the Dassault group and succeeds Charles Edelstenne

The rise in rank of the CEO of Dassault Aviation was announced for almost a year, from February 2024. It is now effective: Eric Trappier becomes president of the Marcel Dassault industrial group (GIMD) on Thursday January 9.

Joining the group at 24, the engineer graduated from Télécom SudParis is now 64. In the meantime, he has spent his entire career at Dassault Aviation. He took the reins in 2013, and will continue to exercise this function in addition to the presidency of the group. He is also president of the Union of Metallurgical Industries and Trades (UIMM), an employers’ federation which brings together more than 40,000 companies in the sector.

Rafale export success

It is under his leadership that the group’s aeronautical subsidiary sold the first Rafale for export in 2015. In 2024, 21 examples were delivered compared to 13 in 2023, according to figures published by the manufacturer on Tuesday January 7. With a current order book of 220 Rafales (including 164 for export), the aircraft manufacturer benefits from ten years of assured production, but must increase the pace to ensure its deliveries.

Eric Trappier replaces Charles Edelstenne, who himself succeeded Serge Dassault, after his death in 2018. This other faithful member of the Dassault family must be named honorary president, at the age of 87, “as a testimony to the family’s recognition for his entire exceptional career in the Dassault group,” indicates the press release.
