Ernest Maragall questions the PSC and ERC government pact to govern Barcelona

The former leader of the Republican municipal group believes that the agreement lacks content, ambition and commitment

The leader of the Barcelona Republicans has reappeared to question the government pact signed by the government of Mayor Jaume Collboni and the municipal group of ERC. Ernest Maragall has come to say on Catalunya Ràdio that the agreement between these parties seems to him to be devoid of content, commitments and ambition.

“We don’t even know it,” he added. In his opinion, an agreement of this nature “would make sense if it had tangible and materializable content that would make it a contract, like the one with the Generalitat. Until now, nothing has been put on the table.”

Maragall resigned from the presidency of his group at the end of the year. This encouraged negotiations on the incorporation of the Republicans into the Barcelona government. His lack of harmony with his former party was obvious. He went to vote in the frustrated referendum to the bases that was to endorse this agreement. Shortly afterwards he left ERC, following the scandal of the posters that, together with his brother, linked him to Alzheimer’s. “Now I speak as a citizen,” he said in the interview.
