The Estonian state reacts very slowly to cable breaks, and the entire field needs a prevention system, said Heigo Mõlder, a researcher at the Institute of Electroenergetics and Mechatronics of Tallinn University of Technology and CEO of MindChip.
There is no such technology and solution that would definitely prevent the next attack, Mõlder stated in the morning program of Äripää radio. However, the state should adopt preventive solutions to prevent or reduce damages.
“The concern is that we react after the fact,” said Mõlder. “We have no advance warning or early response capability.”
The MindChip company develops underwater drones and robots that can patrol underwater cables. Mölder and the company have also proposed to the Ministry of Defense to create a new defense solution.
The researcher explained in more detail how underwater drones and robots would work, what solution system the country would need and how much interest Asian countries have in such technology.
