The European Union announced this Monday a contribution of 20 million euros to the Amazon Fund and guaranteed support for the Brazilian G20 presidency initiative on the creation of a global alliance against hunger.
“I am very proud to affirm the European Union’s commitment to the preservation and sustainable development of the Amazon”, said Jutta Urpilainen, after the signing ceremony, held at a hotel in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, on the sidelines of the G20 meetings.
The Amazon, defined the European official, “is an indispensable natural treasure for the planet’s biodiversity”.
