Chinese digital clothing and jewelry platform Temu may be violating several EU rules. The European Commission officially launches an research to the addictive effect of the webshop and the offering of personal advertisements.
According to the European Commission, Temu Temu does not meet the requirements of the Digital Services Act (DSA). The DSA must better protect Europeans online against illegal content and disinformation. There are also rules for online advertisements.
The webshop would continuously entice users to buy new products with game-like reward systems.
Temu also does not provide insight into how the platform uses data.
Fines under the DSA can amount to up to 6 percent of a company’s total annual global turnover.
Temu has 92 million users. According to the DSA, the online store is therefore considered a large platform or a gatekeeper.
