FROM DATA TO MUSIC: AN INNOVATIVE CREATIVE PROCESS

Data from mobile activities such as calls, text messages or mobile internet usage was collected in June 2024. This data, which comes from local customers and roaming users, has been fully anonymized and processed in accordance with the GDPR. In total, there were more than 109 billion activities. Data for this exceptional project was also provided by Slovak Telekom.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS OF MAKING THE MELODY OF EUROPE COMPOSITION INCLUDED:

  • Data analysis – Recording changes in the intensity of mobile traffic over time, where each activity was converted to a musical note. Higher intensity meant higher tones and vice versa.
  • AI music composition – Artificial intelligence software transformed sound structures following the patterns of classical music.
  • Audiovisual animation – Media artist Hayk Zakoyan created a 3D visualization of the iconic landmarks of the capitals to complement the musical composition.
  • Slovakia is represented by Bratislava, where data from the mobile network was analysed, while the dominant feature of the visualization is Bratislava Castle.

Milan Janosov, data scientist involved in the projectdescribed it as an “emotionally resonant experience” that showcases the potential of artificial intelligence and data processing. “This project is a demonstration of how human expertise and AI capabilities can work synergistically to create something unique and meaningful.“

Using music that connects to iconic landmarks, the project not only makes the invisible visible, but also becomes a metaphor for a connected continent.
