The European Union (EU) welcomed this Wednesday the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, after more than 15 months of war in the Gaza Strip.
“I welcome the ceasefire agreement and the hostage agreement between Israel and Hamas, which will bring much-needed respite to those affected by this devastating conflict,” said European Commissioner Dubravka Suica, on the social network X (formerly Twitter) .
A senior Hamas official confirmed the movement’s endorsement of the ceasefire in Gaza, although Israel highlighted that there are still open clauses.
