Even more power for Tesla Superchargers

Tesla is slowly starting to increase the power of its Superchargers. And that’s all we know about it.

It has already been more than a decade since Tesla arrived on the car market, and the manufacturer is today the undisputed leader. And this even if certain rivals are trying to take its place, notably the Chinese firm BYD. But there is no question for the American brand of letting this happen. Thus, the latter has just announced the arrival of its V4 Superchargers for 2025, promising revolutionary charging capacities.

More powerful Tesla Superchargers

These new terminals will offer charging power of up to 500 kW for electric cars and up to 1.2 MW for electric semi-trailers, a major step forward for the sector. This announcement was communicated via the X platform (formerly Twitter), highlighting that the approval procedures for the Installation of these new infrastructures is already underway. The V4 terminals not only increase charging power: they also integrate several improvements aimed at optimizing the user experience.

Among these new features, we find integrated payment terminals, making it possible to simplify payment without a specific application, longer charging cables to adapt to a wider variety of vehicles, and ports US CCS integrated. These make adapters unnecessary, a common hassle for users of non-Tesla vehicles. The American manufacturer had started deploying these V4 terminals in Europe and the United States from 2023, although their power will then be limited to 250 kW. This initial phase allowed the firm to collect user feedback and refine its technologies before the ramp-up planned for 2025.

A growing global charging network

Today, Tesla operates the world’s largest fast charging network, with more than 60,000 Superchargers in 5,000 locations across the planet. Europe benefits from particular attention with a dense network comprising around 14,000 terminals spread over 1,100 sites in 30 countries. Germany, for example, has around 3,600 Superchargers installed at more than 200 sites, making the country a key player in the brand’s European strategy. The growth of the network is spectacular. During the third quarter of 2024, the latter added 2,800 new terminals worldwide, marking an increase of 23% compared to the previous year.

This accelerated pace underlines the brand’s ambition to respond to growing demand, particularly in the face of increasing sales of electric vehicles and the upcoming arrival of models such as the Cybertruck and the Tesla Semi-trailer. With its V4 Superchargers, Tesla is once again positioning itself as the technological leader in electromobility. The company does not limit itself to innovating on its vehicles, but is also committed to the development of efficient and accessible infrastructure.

By facilitating the adoption of electric vehicles for an ever-widening audience, the manufacturer led by Elon Musk actively contributes to the objective of a sustainable energy transition. These terminals, combining power and simplicity, represent a significant milestone in the democratization of electromobility.
