Even YouTube is raising subscription prices. Slovaks will avoid price increases for now – Communication – Science and technology

The price of a subscription to the YouTube Premium service, which removes ads from videos, has skyrocketed. In selected countries, users pay up to several tens of percent more. Slovaks do not have to worry yet.

When Netflix and Disney+ announced subscription price hikes a few weeks ago, it was just a harbinger of a wave of price increases that will affect other services as well. This time the price increase was announced by YouTube. It is not just about cosmetic changes, but an increase in the order of tens of percent. YouTube is raising YouTube Premium subscription prices in 15 countries, including the Czech Republic. Slovakia has so far avoided price increases, but this does not mean that the service will not step up to it in the near future.

In European countries paying in euros, the price of an individual subscription will increase from 11.99 to 13.99 euros. Customers with a family package, which allows up to six users to share one account, pay even more. Instead of 17.99 euros, they will pay up to 25.99 euros. Just for comparison, Slovaks currently pay 7.19 euros for an individual subscription and 10.99 euros for a family package. Neighboring Czechs will now pay 209 (instead of 179) crowns for an individual subscription and 389 (instead of 269) crowns for a family subscription.

The Disney+ service only recently announced that it will raise prices from 9.99 to 11.99 euros per month, or from 99.90 euros to 119.90 euros per year, from October 17. Changing the service parameters will not change. Customers will continue to be able to watch movies on four devices at once in Ultra HD quality with surround and Dolby Atmos sound. In addition to Disney+, Netflix also raised prices, which until now offered three subscription variants with prices of 7.99 (Basic), 9.99 (Standard) and 11.99 euros (Premium). The first two packages will become more expensive by 1.5 euros, and the Premium package by up to two euros.
