Domestic. About half of Swedes think they will divorce at least once in their lives, shows a new Sifo survey from Familjens Jurist.

The number of divorces has decreased somewhat in recent years, but at the same time the percentage of married couples in Sweden is lower than ever according to figures from Statistics Sweden.

And many Swedes turn out to have a pessimistic view of lifelong relationships. Almost half (47 percent) believe that they will break up from at least one relationship in their lifetime.

The survey also shows that a majority of Swedes (54 percent) feel legally unprepared for a possible divorce.

– Although as a private person I am a romantic, I think as a lawyer that it is good to be realistic about separations. It may sound contradictory but the best time to talk about legal and financial aspects of a possible separation is when you have a good relationship. If these issues are not addressed preemptively, it could become a real bomb strike if it does happen. Then you are suddenly faced with difficult decisions and conflicts that could have been avoided with better preparation and open conversations in advance, says Pierre Kryhl, lawyer at Familjens Jurist, in a press release.
