The Seoul National University College of Medicine-Seoul National University Hospital Professor Emergency Committee recently announced the results of a survey conducted on medical school professors on the 22nd.
The emergency committee said, “As a result of the survey from November 12th to 15th, it was found that the time professors at Seoul National University Hospital devote to medical research has decreased by one-third (35.7%) compared to before,” adding, “If they spent 10 hours on research in the past, “This means that currently only 3.5 hours can be used,” he explained.
“Medical school professors are finding it difficult to maintain clinical practice right now… Research time has been reduced by one-third.”
The emergency committee said, “The decline in research capabilities is not immediately apparent,” and “Considering that it usually takes more than a year for research results to be announced, the current crippling situation at tertiary general hospitals is expected to result from a sharp decline in actual research performance from next year onwards. “It will continue,” he predicted.
The emergency committee said, “In a situation where it is difficult to maintain only urgent medical work, research that requires a long investment of time is pushed to the back burner,” adding, “As a result of this survey, 7 out of 10 professors are not guaranteed rest time after working 24 hours, and half “It was found that nearly (45%) work more than 72 hours a week.”
The Emergency Committee also pointed out, “The situation has improved somewhat compared to the beginning of the situation due to measures to reduce the amount of medical treatment, but the majority of professors are still in a poor working environment.
