mts IRONMAN 70.3 Belgrade race in Serbia, which is expected to be one of the fastest races in the calendar for 2024, will gather over 1,000 top competitors from all over the world, will be held on September 15 and represents the first IRONMAN race in this part of Europe.
Bojan Đurić, director of mts Ironman 70.3 Belgrade race, said today, at a press conference at the Radisson Hotel, that for the first time in the history of Serbia we have this number of competitors, from 62 countries.
“On Sunday, we are expecting a spectacle the likes of which the region has never seen. A thousand swimmers in Lake Sava, a thousand cyclists on the highway, a thousand runners along Belgrade on the water. This is one of the two races in the whole world that is held in the capital, we owe a huge thank you to the City of Belgrade for their selfless help”, said Djuric.
Drako Savić, president of the Board of Directors of mts Ironman 70.3 Belgrade, pointed out that triathlon in Serbia has been continuously growing since 2017, when the first race was held under the auspices of the 11TRI club.
“The number of competitors at the first Ironman race in Serbia speaks of the quality of the races we have been organizing since 2017, with the unreserved support of the City of Belgrade, which is also characterized as one of the fastest developing cities in the world. What was a dream in 2017 is now a reality. I wish luck to all competitors, to finish the race safely. I invite the citizens to join us on Sunday, to enjoy the holiday of sports and cheer on the participants”, said Savić.
Darko Glavaš, city secretary for defense affairs, emergency situations and coordination, said that Belgrade will show that it is traditionally a good host on Sunday, and pointed out that there will be a change in the traffic regime in the early morning hours.
“It is an extremely demanding organization, for the first time we have an event of this format in the Balkans, which will require changes to city transport lines and the closure of traffic on certain sections. I appeal to the citizens to behave in accordance with the posted traffic signals, and the municipal system of the City will do its best to ensure that movement is as easy as possible. From 12:30 p.m., traffic will be gradually opened, while in the early afternoon traffic will return to normal. The organizers have fulfilled all the legal prerequisites, a great event awaits us, I invite everyone to come and cheer on the competitors”, said Glavaš.
