Organized with Maison Loro Piana, Confartigianato Imprese and the National Chamber of Italian Fashion and now in its second edition, it took place in Milan the Masters of Excellence Award, the first recognition for Italian artisans that raises public awareness of the importance of preserving the craftsmanship and unique skills of this country.
Below are the winners, who distinguished themselves in the three categories: expert artisans, emerging talents and professionals.
Master Craftsman of Excellence to Antonio Dattis, cabinetmaker, restorer and luthier. His manual skills and excellent technique have led him to reinterpret and reconstruct particularly elaborate ancient musical instruments, reproduce faithful copies of historical instruments but also to create new ones, often using rare raw materials.
Emerging Master Artisan of Excellence to Rinalda Bonazza, promoter of an original expressive language, which uses bobbin lace and compact knot technique.
Master of Innovation Excellence to Fabio Molinas, a craftsman who studies, develops and produces new generation fabrics starting from the waste of the cork manufacturing process, transforming a disused biomass into a high-performance bio-material, keeping intact the physical-mechanical characteristics of the plant from which it is extracted.
Each will be awarded €10,000 to reinvest in their business; 1 year of mentoring with professionals belonging to Maison Loro Piana, dedicated visits to the Maison Loro Piana factories in order to gain a deeper understanding of the production processes and the know-how of the artisans and technicians and the possibility of evaluating possible collaborations with the winning artisans.
A special mention went to the hat line by Francesco Ballestrazzi, who, at the request of the jury chaired by the internationally renowned artist Fabrizio Plessi, was awarded the Artisan Creativity Award. For this second edition, Plessi created a digital mosaic that frames and enhances even more the products presented by the 9 finalists, incorporated into the installation, becoming part of it itself. The location and the work of the master Fabrizio Plessi containing the 9 finalist products will be accessible and visitable by the public until September 22, upon registration on site.
