For Christmas, on January 7, as a gift to viewers, the domestic film “The Russian Consul” will be premiered. The premiere is scheduled for 10 p.m. on the Superstar channel in the framework MTEL Global usluga.
The film “The Russian Consul” is a Serbian candidate for the Oscar.
The script was written by a trio: Miroslav Lekić, Vladimir Tabašević and Igor Bojović, based on the famous novel “The Russian Consul”.
The audience had the opportunity to watch the film in local cinemas starting from March last year when it had its premiere at FEST, and at the end of last year the film was shown specially in Los Angeles.
The eternal theme
The plot of the film takes us back to the 70s of the last century in Kosovo and Metohija, at the time of the crisis that influenced later events and strained relations between Serbs and Albanians.
The main character is the psychiatrist Ilija Jugović (Nebojša Dugalić), a Serbian doctor, who, after the death of a patient in Belgrade, is transferred to a hospital in Prizren in Kosovo and Metohija by the party.
His new position is a general practitioner at a local hospital.
In his new environment, he meets Ljub Božović (Žarko Laušević), a history professor who has grown accustomed to the role of the Russian consul. Apparently, Ljubo is the ideal patient of Dr. Jugović because his behavior has the characteristics of a psychiatric case, but his visions make people think.
He publicly claims that the time is approaching when Russia will again be a powerful Russia, and Kosovo will once again be Serbian.
His claims are not liked by the local Albanian powerful, who are disguised separatists, and it becomes a problem for the members of the Communist Party, who defend their positions and maintain the impression of brotherhood and unity in the province.
While the semblance of an ideal situation is maintained, the pressures on the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and their quiet emigration to central Serbia continue in parallel. The leader of this cruelty is Halit Beriša (Visar Viška), and Serbs are deprived of health care, their families and students are mistreated in schools, which disturbs their normal life and causes fear and insecurity.
Beriša is not resting, and Ljubo Božović’s turn will soon come. Berisha is trying to evict him from his house in Prizren and expel him from Kosovo and Metohija. Ljubo refuses to sell the house and the conflict flares up, and doctor Ilija Jugović comes under his protection.
In addition to the masterful acting of Žarko Laušević and Nebojša Dugalić, a large cast includes: Svetozar Cvetković, Paulina Manov, Mensur Safhija (Limani), Konstantin Fidanov, Danica Radulović, Petar Zekavica, Meto Jovanovski, Nada Macanković (Vida Murici), Slaviša Čurović, Enver Petrovci, Igor Đorđević, Ljubiša Savanović, Vladan Gajović, Loren Rui (Austrian consul), Arno Humbert (British consul), Anica Lazić (sister Sara), Tamara Aleksić, Nebojša Kundačina and others.
How it will all end, we will find out soon.
