‘Expensive Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 drives up smartphone prices’

The price of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip is 20 percent higher than that of its predecessor. That is claimed by a well-known leaker. As a result, high-end smartphones with this processor will probably also become a lot more expensive.

‘Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip price up 20 percent’

The faster a processor is, the more money you have to pay for it. That sounds logical, but this year manufacturer Qualcomm seems to be going overboard. According to the well-known leaker Ice Universe the price of the high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip is 20.68 percent higher than that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The OnePlus 13 is likely to run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

The new processor is said to cost $240. That makes the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 more expensive than some full-fledged smartphones. That will undoubtedly have consequences for the price of phones that have this chip on board. Companies almost always pass these kinds of increases on to the consumer.

By the way, there seem to be two variants of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 coming. The mentioned price of 240 dollars probably applies to the fastest version.

Qualcomm may also release a slightly slower version of the chip for a lower price. This way, smartphone makers can still offer a new chip without increasing the price of the device too much. For the same reason, Qualcomm came out with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 earlier this year, a stripped-down version of the normal Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

OnePlus 13 first smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4?

Qualcomm will present the very expensive Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 on October 21st. Around that date, OnePlus will also launch the OnePlus 13. That is probably the first smartphone that runs on this new chip. Unfortunately, we will probably have to wait until early next year before that device will be in stores here.
