Experts reported a twofold decrease in YouTube traffic in Russia

According to the company’s CEO Yaroslav Gorodetsky, traffic from YouTube has moved to VK Video (39%), Yandex (17%), Rutube (8%) and other platforms. According to experts, every fifth user is waiting for an interesting solution to replace YouTube.

Since the start of YouTube’s slowdown, the services that have managed to increase traffic the most are Okko (+50%), VK Video (+35%) and Ivi (30.4%), Gorodetsky said.

The first mass failure in YouTube’s work occurred in Russia on August 1, when users began having problems accessing the site and playing videos. Google has repeatedly stated that it has nothing to do with the difficulties that Russian users encountered.

A month later, due to the outflow of customers, providers began to speed up YouTube, to which Roskomnadzor responded and demanded that the use of technologies for “distortion, fragmentation, and substitution of Internet traffic” be eliminated.

Later, the providers reported to the FAS that they were being discriminated against due to the “uneven slowdown” of YouTube and other Google services. The slowdown caused an increase in complaints from users to the companies.
