Canon today unveils its groundbreaking RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens.
The lens is designed to make creating realistic, high-quality 3D still images and videos easier and more accessible.
When used with a camera with an APS-C sensor, the lens provides a compact and affordable gateway to the world of multi-dimensional video – while retaining the high optical performance of the EOS R system.
It has a natural 63-degree field of view, reminiscent of human vision, and creates immersive experiences with an extra dimension, providing emotional depth and vivid realism. The RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM DUAL is currently compatible with the EOS R71 (with the possibility of additional compatibility with more cameras). Content creators can capture multi-dimensional videos that can be experienced not only on expensive VR headsets, but also on smartphones via VR glasses, cardboard headsets and even handheld display devices for printed images.
Weighing just 130g, when paired with an easy-to-use STM AF system, it opens up 3D shooting capabilities for stills and videos to a wide range of users, allowing everyone to create more lifelike images for cultural performances, important product launches or tour videos for real estate or hotels.
To enable a seamless and efficient workflow, the EOS VR Utility app will be updated to allow users to create multi-dimensional videos for Apple Vision Pro headsets. This allows you to record content on Canon EOS VR System products, to then be exported in the MV-HEVC codec.
