Early on Sunday morning, there were explosions in several places in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
This is what witnesses in the city tell the Reuters news agency.
The announcement comes shortly after the Ukrainian Air Force warned of the risk of a large-scale Russian missile attack.
It is unknown exactly how many missiles have hit Kyiv. But from the head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, it sounds on the Telegram communication service that there have been many missiles in the air.
On the night of Sunday, Kyiv was also hit by drone attacks, writes Reuters.
As a result of the attack, there was a fire in an apartment building. At least one person was injured, Ukrainian officials said on Telegram.
There were no reports of fatalities on Sunday morning.
As a precautionary measure, power has been cut in Kyiv and several other Ukrainian regions.
Also in Zaporizhzhya in southeastern Ukraine and in the port city of Odessa, witnesses told Reuters about explosions.
The extent of the attack is not clear here either.
In neighboring Poland, the attack is called massive by the country’s military.
In response, Polish planes have been sent into the air.
“Due to the massive attack by Russia with cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones on targets in, among other things, western Ukraine, Polish and allied aircraft have begun to operate in our airspace”, writes the military on the social media X.
At the same time, radar systems are put on the highest alert in Poland, it continues.
