Sergio Perez has been in the crossfire of attacks at Red Bull for weeks, in fact the team is already dissatisfied with his performance in Mexico. Although they recently extended the contract with Perez, due to the various clauses, Red Bull can still easily get out of it, they can decide on his fate in Mexico during the summer break (after the Hungarian and Belgian races).

Red Bull would almost certainly choose a successor from within, Liam Lawson was recently tested by the team in a filming day at Silverstone. The name of Daniel Ricciardo, who is also not very convincing this year, has also been mentioned, but Juki Cunoda is not mentioned much in connection with the session.

However, the Japanese competitor feels that he is very ready for promotion, he kicked the door in the top position. “For the past three years, I felt ready to fight with the leading teams and the best drivers, even with Max,” said Cunoda. “But the team will decide, I have no influence on that. So I’m focusing on the next two races to do my best.”

When asked if he thought he deserved the move up to Red Bull, Cunoda answered with a clear and emphatic yes. “If Liam was chosen, it would be quite strange. Liam did a good job in his races last year, but I think I did better than him. We’ll see what happens, Red Bull knows how to manage its drivers.”
