F1: Norris won’t give up on Verstappen

Max Verstappen can put an end to the world championship fight this weekend. The Dutchman – who currently leads the points race with 62 points – can also secure his fourth championship if he maintains at least 60 units of his advantage with Lando Norris. Based on the qualifying session for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas, there is every chance of this, as the Dutchman finished right in front of his British opponent.

McLaren performed particularly poorly during the qualifying session on Friday evening local time, considering that Norris finished only sixth, while his teammate Oscar Piastri finished in eighth place. The 25-year-old competitor believes that after this, it is impossible to stand on the podium in Sunday’s race.

“We probably don’t have a chance to finish in the top three or four,” he said resignedly. Sky Sports F1-nek. “Mercedes is by far the fastest of the entire weekend, only Ferrari can keep up with them now, while we, together with Red Bull, were a long way behind, and it showed today.”

“We expected a bit more than where we actually ended up, that’s for sure. It could have been successful if the circle was put together, but we had a different problem at each corner. What worked in one round doesn’t work in the next, so it’s difficult. It’s too big for our car. We tried to find time, but not overstepping the bounds, which is a delicate balance,” explained Norris.

To the question of whether he will try to keep alive his more mathematical championship chances, he answered as follows:

Of course I’ll do everything I can, because that’s why I’m here. I will not give up until the end, even if I have a slim chance. I’m here to give my best in every race, whether I’m fighting for the title or not.

“It’s going to be a long race where a lot can happen. We have a good pace in the straight, which will hopefully benefit us”, he looked ahead.
