Died from poisonous gas

On June 20, two men in their 40s died after working in a tank at the plastic recycling company Omni Polymers, located in Ängelholm. In the tank, hydrogen sulphide, a poisonous gas, had formed, which the men breathed in, reports say Today’s Work.

According to Omni Polymer’s own investigation, the accident was due to a few different factors, mainly that it had gotten into sludge in a treatment tank, which caused hydrogen sulphide to form. Another contributing factor was that a lightning strike could have caused the water to not circulate as it should.

The Work Environment Agency has also investigated the accident, where they concluded that one of the men was not wearing a respirator. The Swedish Work Environment Authority decided to report the company to the police.

A former employee of the company suspected of crimes connected to the accident. The crime classification is a work environment offense by causing the death of another.
