The Minister of Education with the most mandates (four, for now!) explains to #Altceva why education collapsed. “Educated Romania” is a striking project on paper, but dark in reality. While skeptics claim that nothing can be fixed, Mrs. Ecaterina Andronescu believes that there is salvation within the teachers-students-parents triangle.
The “Mother of Education” from the 90s onwards speaks cruel truths on #Altceva:
* how the black numbers of school dropouts are “inflated”;
* whence the huge differences between the initial marks and those of the appeals;
* why the passing rate has dropped drastically in recent years;
* where the dialogue between teachers and students broke down;
* high school graduates should or should not opt for a college abroad.
In the interview that the former Minister of Education gave to the journalist Adrian Artene, he also spoke about the faculties in our country, compared to those abroad. Many 12th grade graduates are thinking about whether to choose to study at universities in Romania or abroad. The teaching staff enlightened everyone and gave them some important recommendations for their future:
“I think that a college done in Romania is a very good solution for a teenager or a young man who has passed adolescence. He is not separated from his family enough… to get a bachelor’s degree in Romania at the university, because Romania has very good universities and we can compete with many universities in the west, without fearing that we will lose the competition. After that, I would advise him (not her son), but also everyone that an experience abroad is a must have.
How can he have? Through an ERASMUS program, they are generous…I am sure that many were beneficiaries and they agree with my assessment, they learn to detach, for those who still live with their parents, to manage on their own, it is very important for an adult to learn this. He also learns a different institutional culture, in a different university, and this is a win-win for everyone. I think that for those who want to learn, high-performing Romanian universities are the solution I recommend, without being ashamed of this recommendation”, explained Ecaterina Andronescu, on the Altceva Podcast with Adrian Artene.
