Fake video generator spreads malware

Bleeping Computer reports about a new spyware that has begun to spread, and whose developers are unusually bold. The program is hidden in an AI-based video generator called “Edit Pro AI”, which has a glossy website and advertises X to attract more people to install it.

Somewhat unusually, the malware has versions for both Windows and Mac. In both cases, it’s about stealing saved login and card details from browsers and password managers, crypto wallets and other things that can be used to steal the victim’s money or resold on the black market.

Over the past few weeks, the developers of the malware have posted the professionally designed website on various domains. Whoever downloads the program receives an installer with the file name Edit-ProAI-Setup-newest_release.exe for Windows or a named disk image EditProAi_v.4.36.dmg for Mac.

The Windows version is signed with what appears to be a developer certificate stolen from Softwareok.com, which develops several free, legitimate programs for Windows.

This type of spyware has grown strongly in recent years, and in addition to stealing directly from victims, it is used to enter companies’ internal systems using stolen login credentials, writes Bleeping Computer.
