The new presentation from LEVEL5 studio was loaded with nice surprises. In addition to new details regarding the Professor Layton and Inazuma Eleven franchises, life simulation fans had their eyes glued to Fantasy Life i: The Time Thief. The long-awaited sequel to the Nintendo 3DS hit has been a long time coming, but it looks like all the patience is worth it. After being pushed back from 2023 to summer 2024, and then to October 2024, The title is now scheduled for April 2025.
With these two additional years of development, LEVEL5 has spared no effort and intends to make this opus the best cozy game to date. A dozen professions, a vast world to explore, areas to decorate and a well-crafted storyline await players in what promises to be an adventure that is as exciting as it is relaxing.
Same basics, but better
As in the original opus on 3DS, Fantasy Life adventurers will be able to embody different professions to live their virtual dream life and achieve their in-game objectives. Fantasy Life i offers 14 careers (compared to 12 in the previous title), representing both classes strictly speaking, as well as harvesting and crafting professions. It will then be possible to explore the island as a knight or magician to defeat monsters, to harvest resources as a lumberjack or miner, before using it all as a cook, tailor or even artist, one of the new professions.
The shared gameplay clips show us more interesting boss fights, enhanced exploration through climbing and swimming, and many quality of life improvements. First up is the addition of different mounts will correct the terrible lack of speed and mobility that the 3DS version suffered from. Especially since with “the largest open world in the franchise“, it would have been painful to gambol on the short legs of the little characters in the game.
The most obvious improvement, however, remains the introduction of Quick Life Change, allowing you to change professions directly from the overworld. It will be possible to switch from a combat profession to a harvesting profession in a few clicks, making your excursion on the island easier. If all this already catches your eye, know that Fantasy Life i will also feature online multiplayer for up to 4 players, as well as 2-player local co-op.
With the addition of a farmer profession designed for fans ofHarvest Moon et Stardew Valleythis new gem from LEVEL5 is well on its way to becoming the best life simulator on the Switch. Nintendo will have to redouble its efforts with its next Animal Crossing…But while waiting for Tom Nook to return, Fantasy Life i will take the lead from April 2025, without further details.
