Apart from cultivation of new crop, farmers cultivated mustard in Feni in more than target area compared to last season. The farmers of Feni are dreaming of turning around after the disaster in the agricultural sector due to severe floods.
Agriculture officials say that there is a possibility of a bumper yield in Feni in the mustard field this season. This will make it easier to overcome flood damage. They said that 446 crores of rupees were lost in the agricultural sector in Feni due to the terrible floods in August.
Sources from the Directorate of Agricultural Extension also said that among the 6 upazilas of Feni, the largest number of mustard plants have been planted in Sonagazi. In this upazila, a target of 2 thousand 648 hectares of land has been set for the current season. So far 2 thousand 550 hectares have been planted. Last year, 2 thousand 470 hectares of land were cultivated.
According to the sources of the Feni Agricultural Extension Department, the target of mustard cultivation has been set on 6 thousand 500 hectares of land in the district in the current season. In the meantime mustard has been cultivated on 6 thousand 64 hectares of land. Mustard cultivation is going on in different places. The interest in mustard is increasing day by day as the profit is higher than other crops.
Earlier, mustard was cultivated on 3 thousand 494 hectares in 2023, 1 thousand 806 hectares in 2022, 1 thousand 907 hectares in 2021 and 1 thousand 680 hectares in 2020. As a result, the amount of mustard cultivation has increased day by day. Mustard cultivation has doubled this year as compared to last season.
The target was 1 thousand 950 hectares in Sadar Upazila. 2 thousand 70 hectares have been cultivated. 1 thousand 930 hectares were cultivated last year. In Chagalnaya, the target was 620 hectares. 650 hectares have been cultivated beyond the target. Last year, 580 hectares were cultivated.
In Fulgazi, the target was 680 hectares. 682 hectares have been cultivated. Last year, 635 hectares were cultivated. In Parashuram, the target was 242 hectares. 205 hectares have been cultivated. Last year, 226 hectares were cultivated. The target was 240 hectares in Daganbhuan. 200 hectares have been cultivated. Last year, 225 hectares were cultivated.
Emdad Sohag, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of Daganbhunia, said, “Mustard cultivation has increased this year compared to other years. The flood affected farmers will be more encouraged and financially benefited in mustard cultivation.’
Deputy Director of District Agriculture Extension Directorate. Ekram Uddin said, ‘flood-affected farmers can become financially independent by cultivating mustard. 12,000 farmers have been given incentives for oil seeds and pulses after harvesting Aman paddy. About 1 crore 21 lakh 24 thousand 400 rupees worth of seeds and fertilizers have been given. Fertilizers and seeds have been provided free of charge to encourage 5,000 farmers to cultivate mustard.
