Farmers suffering from buffalo grazing in inaccessible pastures of Lakshmipur

Hundreds of farmers are in trouble by cultivating crops in the inaccessible pastures of Lakshmipur. They are afraid of loss due to the pain of the buffalo. At night, hundreds of buffaloes attack the crops. They are destroying and eating various crops including rice and soybeans. Farmers are not getting money even after keeping watch all night. Although the buffalo owners have been informed repeatedly, no remedy is forthcoming.

It is known that in Char Megha and New Char Megha of Char Ramani Mohan Union of Laxmipur Sadar Upazila, hundreds of farmers cultivate various crops including rice and soybeans. On the other hand, some influential people rear buffaloes on all those pastures. They let the buffaloes graze. In this, the herd of buffaloes go and eat and destroy the crops of the cultivated land. Farmers also keep vigil at night to protect their crops from buffaloes after a long day of hard work.

Farmers complain that Rob Molla, Jahangir Molla, Harish Sardar, Barek Sardar, Shah Sardar, Shaheed Ullah Bepari, Maqchud Hawladar, Kashem Gowal, Jabbar Mal are raising buffaloes under the influence of Char Megha. They release the buffaloes across the pasture without keeping them in a particular place. In this the buffaloes roam the cropland and destroy and eat the crops. Although the buffalo owners have been repeatedly informed about the matter, they are not heeding. Farmers are facing losses every day.

Farmer Mohsin Karati said, we are fed up with the torture of buffaloes. Although the buffalo was captured several times, it had to be released later due to various reasons. Still the buffalo owners are not solving it. If this continues, we will suffer huge losses.

Farmer Anwar Hossain said that it is very difficult to cultivate crops in this inaccessible pasture. Hard work all day and watch at night due to buffaloes. Still unable to cope. We want to remedy this.

Regarding the complaint, the buffalo owner Rob Molla said, “We keep buffaloes in some pastures. We have farms, people. But at night the buffalo runs away. We try to stop them. Still harming the farmers. Now they have detained some of our buffaloes.

Kamal Hossain, sub-inspector of Lakshmipur Sadar police station, said that we have received a complaint of damage to farmers’ crops. We are investigating that.
