faster tablet for a slightly higher price

OnePlus has officially launched the Pad 2. The new tablet has a much faster processor than its predecessor and a larger screen. However, this comes with a slightly higher recommended retail price. OnePlus also presents a new smartwatch and fresh earbuds.

OnePlus Pad 2 official

More than a year after the launch of its first tablet, OnePlus has officially presented its successor: the OnePlus Pad 2. The device is identical to the OnePlus Pad Pro available in China. With a suggested retail price of 549 euro is 50 euros more expensive than the original OnePlus Pad. There are two major improvements to this.

The most striking thing is the new processor. The device runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. This is also in the OnePlus 12 and is the fastest processor at the moment. This makes the OnePlus Pad 2 the fastest Android tablet you can buy in one fell swoop. It is very suitable for gaming and the Pad 2 also does not shy away from things like photo and video editing. The tablet has 12GB of RAM and 256G of storage. The first Pad had to make do with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

In addition, the screen grows from 11.6 to 12.1 inches. It also has a higher peak brightness of 900 nits. The first OnePlus Pad did not go beyond 500 nits. The resolution is 3000 by 2160 pixels and the refresh rate is a maximum of 144 Hz for very smooth images. However, it is still an LCD screen with a less good contrast than the OLED display of, for example, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Plus.

The other specifications have not changed much. The battery has the same capacity of 9510 mAh and charges with 67 Watt, certainly for a tablet, very quickly. On the back we find a 13 megapixel camera again and on the front there is an 8 megapixel lens for selfies and video calls. However, you now have six instead of four stereo speakers. The tablet is 6.5 millimeters thick and weighs 584 grams.

OnePlus is also releasing a new stylus for 99 euros and a keyboard with a larger trackpad, which turns the tablet into a laptop replacement. That costs 149 euros. For the official case you pay 59 euros.

The OnePlus Pad runs Android 14, with OxygenOS on top. It gets three major Android upgrades and four years of security patches. The tablet can be ordered now via the OnePlus website and will be available from August 1. Those who pre-order before then will receive a 50 euro discount, a free 80 Watt charger and the choice of a free keyboard, stylus or case.

Also new earbuds and cheaper smartwatch

In addition to the OnePlus Pad 2 and the OnePlus Nord 4, OnePlus launched two more new products today. They are earbuds and a new smartwatch.

OnePlus Nord Buds 3 P:ro

The OnePlus Nord Buds 3 Pro are a great match for the Nord 4. OnePlus promises active noise cancellation that can compete with much more expensive earbuds. They reduce ambient noise by 49 decibels and dynamically adjust the amount of noise cancellation to the situation. Thanks to the large drivers, you can enjoy deep bass.

When you don’t use noise cancellation, the Nord Buds 3 Pro last up to 11 hours on a single charge. Including the charging case, you have 44 hours of music in your pocket. When you do switch on active noise cancellation, that drops to 20 hours. The earbuds are available in black or green and have a recommended retail price of 79 euro.

The Chinese manufacturer also presented the OnePlus Watch 2R. It looks very similar to the regular OnePlus Watch 2. The watch has the same 1.43-inch OLED screen and also has a maximum battery life of 100 hours. However, it is made of aluminum instead of stainless steel, making the smartwatch a quarter lighter. The screen has Gorilla Glass instead of the stronger sapphire glass.

The watch has a suggested retail price of 279 euro. That makes it oddly more expensive than the regular OnePlus Watch 2 at the moment, which you can get for around 260 euros. The 2R is available now.
