In an email sent to his supporters, cited by the Associated Press, the Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States wrote: “There have been shots fired in my neighborhood, but before the rumors start to get out of hand, I wanted you to hear this first: I am safe and well!”
“Nothing will make me slow down. I will never surrender!” added the former US President.
US Secret Service agents accompanying the candidate opened fire today after spotting a person with a firearm near Donald Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The incident occurred while the Republican presidential candidate was playing golf, according to two law enforcement officials, according to the AP. No injuries were reported.
The person seen with an AK47-style weapon fled in an all-terrain vehicle and was later arrested in a neighboring county by local police, according to authorities, who spoke on condition of anonymity as part of an ongoing investigation.
The firearm was recovered at the scene, near Trump’s golf course, one of the agents told the AP.
The golf course was partially closed while Trump was playing and officers were a few holes ahead of him when they noticed the person with the gun, officers said.
The person appeared to push the barrel of the shotgun through the fence line and that’s when officers fired, they added.
This incident occurred about two months after an assassination attempt on Donald Trump’s life at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
According to the United States Secret Service, the incident occurred shortly before 2:00 pm local time (6:00 pm GMT).

President Joe Biden and Democratic vice president Kamala Harris were briefed on the shooting near Trump’s golf course and expressed “relief” to be safe, the White House reported, citing AP.
“I have been informed of gunfire near former President Trump and his Florida property and am glad he is safe and sound. Violence has no place in America,” the Democratic presidential candidate wrote in a statement of her own, which she posted on the social network X.
