FC Bayern is increasingly being linked to the signing of Canadian international Jonathan David from Lille OSC. Now his club boss has confirmed his interest – and made a clear announcement.
According to Lille president Olivier Létang, FC Bayern is one of many clubs from “all over Europe” that “admire” Jonathan David’s development. The club boss said this in the podcast “L’After Foot” from the French broadcaster “RMC Sport”, as quoted by “Sky”, among others.
Several media outlets had previously reported that the German record champions were definitely keeping an eye on the attacker. What makes the striker particularly attractive, in addition to his goal rate, is that his contract expires at the end of the season; from January, interested clubs can negotiate a change directly with the player without the involvement of Lille representatives.
“Sky” had recently spread the information that such a free transfer for FC Bayern would be anything but cheap. The David side is demanding a whopping 80 million euros for a four-year contract. In addition to the annual salary, this also includes a bonus for the player and a fee for his advisors.
FC Bayern is interested: Lille boss makes two things clear
Lille’s President Létang also made two things clear in the podcast: On the one hand, the Ligue 1 club is still fighting for its center forward, and a prompt extension is the great wish of those responsible. “We have already offered him a contract extension and now the decision is his. Jonathan loves the club and Lille is his home,” said the Frenchman to “RMC Sport”.
On the other hand, he put a stop to a possible change in the middle of the season. Under no circumstances will David be given away in the winter, the sporting demands of the club are too great and they absolutely want to be represented in the Champions League next season. David’s goals are likely to be crucial for successful qualification. In 19 competitive games in 2024/25 he scored a strong 13 goals, four of them in the premier class.
“He won’t leave us in January. He will stay with us because he is an important player. He will stay because we have goals,” said Létang. Clubs were already lining up to sign the 24-year-old last summer. But even then there was “no pressure” on having to give up the striker. “Also because no suitable offers came.”
