FC Bayern | Flick wants to do it at Barca like he did in Munich

At the highest level, Hansi Flick has so far only gained experience as a head coach with FC Bayern and the German national football team. Nevertheless, the CV of the 60-year-old, who has recently taken over the reins at FC Barcelona, is adorned with several titles – including winning the treble with the Munich team in 2020. In Catalonia, Flick now reportedly wants to draw on the most important lessons learned from his successful period.

When FC Bayern won the Champions League in 2020, six German internationals formed the backbone of the team: Serge Gnabry, Thomas Müller, Jérôme Boateng, Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. Robert Lewandowski and David Alaba were two players who had many years of experience in German professional football under their belts, and Alphonso Davies and Kingsley Coman were a duo whose careers really took off in the Bundesliga. Flick is now aiming for this same squad composition at FC Barcelona.

According to “El Nacional”, Flick also wants to rely on a core of Spaniards at FC Barcelona, who were ideally even trained at the club. At least the majority of the regular players should know the Spanish league very well.

This plan should be easy to implement for the Catalans: With Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres, Fernin Lopez, Pedri, Gavi, Pau Cubarsi and Aljandro Balde, they already have strong Spaniards in their ranks.

Parallels to FC Bayern also in the striker position

In addition, as he did during his time with the German record champions, Flick will place great emphasis on the wing positions. Similar to Coman and Gnabry, Flick will look for two players who can constantly put pressure on the opponent and wear them down.

The Blaugrana already have a player of this category, 16-year-old Yamal, but Flick is expected to lobby club boss Deco to sign Yamal’s congenial partner in the Spanish team’s European Championship victory, Nico Williams. The 22-year-old left winger from Atletic Bilbao seems perfect to implement Flick’s supposed dream tactic.

Incidentally, center forward Lewandowski, who left Bayern for Barcelona in 2022 and will now face Flick again, is set to benefit from this strong wing combination.
