Eric Dier came to FC Bayern in the 2023/24 winter transfer period. Under Thomas Tuchel, the Englishman was one of Munich’s big winners in the last second half of the season. With Vincent Kompany, however, the central defender hardly gets any playing time. There is apparently a “clear trend” on Säbener Strasse as to how things will continue with Dier.
“Bild” recently reported that everything points to Dier’s departure next summer. Now transfer expert Florian Plettenberg followed up on the “Sky” program “Transfer Update – The Show” and explained that the “clear trend” was towards a free transfer after the current season.
It is said that a final decision has not yet been made. The English international feels very comfortable in Munich and is also very popular in the team and with Vincent Kompany, Plettenberg continued. Nevertheless, he assumes that the defender’s contract on the Isar will not be extended.
FC Bayern made a bargain with Eric Dier
The 30-year-old came to the Bavarian capital in mid-January 2024 for a loan fee of just 3.5 million euros. A few months later, his permanent move was bagged for free. Especially in his first half of the year in Munich, the Englishman was considered indispensable for a long time because he made significantly fewer individual mistakes than those around him.
He was therefore used in 15 games in the second half of the season under Thomas Tuchel and also played a further five times for the record champions in the Champions League. However, things haven’t been going well for the former Spurs defender since the summer. Dier noticeably suffers from Kompany’s full-throttle football.
The record champions’ defense chain is extremely high, so there is a lot of space between the last line and their own goal. Because the Englishman has significant speed deficits compared to his competitors, he doesn’t fit ideally into the system.
