After the separation from Edin Terzic, it quickly became clear that Nuri Sahin would be the new head coach at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. But with Roberto De Zerbi, FC Bayern’s former flirt, there was apparently another candidate on the list.
As “Sky” reports, Roberto De Zerbi was a topic at Borussia Dortmund in the summer. The 45-year-old is said to have been open to joining the Revierklub.
But it quickly became clear to the BVB bosses that they would rather rely on the “stable smell”. Therefore, Sahin was trusted.
De Zerbi moved from Brighton & Hove Albion to Olympique Marseille in the summer.
The Italian had previously been considered Thomas Tuchel’s successor at FC Bayern. For their part, the Munich team has decided on Vincent Kompany.
Sahin has recently come under increasing criticism at BVB. After the 5-2 defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League and the 2-1 defeat at FC Augsburg, the pressure on the 36-year-old is increasing.
Sahin receives support from BVB
Sahin recently received support from the BVB bosses. Sports director Sebastian Kehl said at the weekend that his “complete trust” in the inexperienced coach was unshakable: “There is no alternative to continuing to work hard. We will march on together.”
Instead, Kehl took the players to task. “I see the coach working meticulously every day. In the end it’s also up to the experienced leaders. They have to sort it out on the pitch.”
Managing director Lars Ricken made it clear to the “Ruhr Nachrichten” that the head coach continues to have the full support of the club management. “I see him working very constructively, conscientiously and intensively with the team. Our job is to find pragmatic solutions together,” he emphasized.
On Tuesday (8:45 p.m.) BVB continues in the second round of the DFB Cup at VfL Wolfsburg.
