FC Schalke 04: Mulder talks about emergency transfers

Despite the tense sporting situation and many injuries, interim sports director Youri Mulder doesn’t think much of piloting players without a club to FC Schalke 04 at short notice.

“We have to concentrate on improving our team every day. Bringing someone in out of necessity brings unrest. And if someone doesn’t have a club, it takes time until they can play 90 minutes,” explained the Dutchman on the sidelines of the 2-0 win. Success in the basement duel against Jahn Regensburg on Sunday told journalists.

Most recently, Schalke had dealt with former BVB professional Anthony Modeste – a thought game that did not come from Mulder. “I have a lot of ideas, but I didn’t have the idea. I didn’t talk to him either,” the 55-year-old clarified.

Modeste had publicly canceled Schalke. “I was able to get to know those responsible and had great, trusting conversations with the coach and with Ben Manga (squad planner, editor’s note). I was shown a clear direction and plans that inspired me a lot. I thought about it for a long time “But my gut feeling decided,” he reported to “Sky”.

The reason for the rejection: “As a Cologne and former Dortmund player, a move to Schalke doesn’t feel right. Nevertheless, I feel honored to have received such a request, after all, Schalke is a big club.”

FC Schalke 04: Sylla’s return gives hope

Against Regensburg, S04 coach Kees van Wonderen was able to rely on top scorer Moussa Sylla, who was recently injured. He scored Schalke’s second goal (53′). The lead went to captain Kenan Karaman (16th).

“Looking forward, there have been difficulties here and there recently, but it also depends on who you have available,” Mulder said.

Sylla’s comeback and the strong performance of playmaker Amin Younes were “helpful” for Karaman, who recently was often the sole entertainer in the Schalke offensive.
