FC Voluntari hit the ground running with relegation to League 2 after nine years spent in the first football league in Romania, and for the moment it remains there, on its belly, after the first two stages of the new season.
The team from Ilfove has two points recorded from the matches with CSM Slatina and Concordia Chiajna and has a more difficult start to the championship than expected.
FC Voluntari, only draw at home debut in League 2, in the Ilfov derby, with Concordia
After in the debut round he barely got a draw away from Slatina (scor 1-1), the tie coming only in the 90+7th minute, from captain Igor Armaș, now, on Friday, at the start of the second round, it was the Voluntari team that was tied at the end of the match. 1-1 it’s over and the match with Concordia Chiajna, in the Ilfov derby, with Nicolae Carnat, another player left from the team that relegated the team, scoring in the 7th minute, on the one hand, respectively with Aurelian Ciuciulete, scoring for the guests in the 81st minute.
The team led by Claudiu Niculescu started the match better and struck from the 7th minute, when Nicolae Carnat scored with a spectacular shot. The good times for FC Voluntari continued, also with Carnat energetic on the flanks and Nemec causing terror in the center of Chiajne’s defense, but the goal did not stick.
”NI liked this draw. I didn’t play a bad game, but that’s football. The enemy came upon us. We took a step back to preserve the result.
That deflected ball counted for a lot (no – refers to the goal scored by Concordia). After all, this is football. We have to learn from the mistakes we made today”said Claudiu Niculescu, quoted by DigiSport.
Niculescu is looking for alibis. FC Voluntari would not be a favorite for promotion, in his opinion!
Voluntariul has a difficult start to the championship, even if Claudiu Niculescu has at his disposal footballers remaining in the squad from the first league, such as Armaș, Nemec, Carnat, Cocian or Droppa, acquisitions with experience, such as Pițian, Toma or Fantis, but also several former his students from Şelimbăr, such as Gîț, Panos, Alexe, Schieb, listing only those used in the last match.
Compared to the last game, 1-1 at CSM Slatina, Niculescu changed three players in the first 11 for the derby with Concordia. Mitrea, Călin and Droppa left and Șuteu, Cocian and Toma entered. Bujor disappeared from the bench and Schieb appeared.
“I think it’s about the lack of homogeneity. The group I want hasn’t formed yet. I only got two points and it’s not satisfying at all. The following week we have a match at Mioveni and a tough game awaits us.
We have to eliminate the mistakes we made in this match. We are not favorites for promotion. There are other clubs that have declared their intention. No team is a favorite. It will be a tough fight for access to the play-offs, first of all”Niculescu also said.
His reaction to the fact that FC Voluntari are not favorites for promotion is hilarious. If Voluntariul is no longer the favorite, given the conditions it has, then who else is? It’s just a lack of commitment on the part of Claudiu Niculescu, a search for alibis.

In the next stage, the 3rd, FC Voluntari plays away at CS Mioveni, on Saturday, from 11:00, another old acquaintance of Claudiu Niculescu, as was Concordia Chiajna. CS Mioveni has a draw (0-0 at Unirea Ungheni) and a win (1-0 at CS Afumati) in this season opener.
Until then, however, both teams will also play in Round 3 of the Romanian Cup. Niculescu’s players have a match on Wednesday, from 17:30, at CS Blejoi (Liga 3), while Alin Chița’s students play away at SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea (Liga 3), in the same time slot.
