Ferrari CEO says thermal supercars of the future could be saved by synthetic fuels. The first car to benefit from them could be the successor to the LaFerrari.
Ferrari boss Benedetto Vigna believes synthetic fuels and hydrogen propulsion systems could have a future in the Italian manufacturer’s models and says he wants to use motorsport to develop both technologies, according to Autocar.
Vigna believes that these carbon-neutral fuels will “increasingly become a reality.” Vigna added: “We are working with partners for 2026 for Formula 1 synthetic fuel and usually the technologies start on the track and migrate to the road. We believe there is still a valid way forward for thermal cars and this will be supported by the development of synthetic fuel.”
Ferrari boss believes in synthetic fuels
Ferrari is gearing up for the launch of a successor to the LaFerrari, a car that we can expect to use a system similar to what we’ve seen on the 296 GTB or SF90. This means that the future hypercar from Maranello will use a hybrid system, but with much more power than the two previously mentioned models.
We don’t know if the F250 codenamed car will use a V12, V8 or V6 powerplant, but Vigna’s statements suggest that it could be created with synthetic fuels in mind. The company’s future hypercar is currently being tested and could be launched in 2025.
Vigna previously suggested Ferrari could use synthetic fuels as a way to keep combustion engine cars on sale after 2035, the European Commission has proposed allowing combustion engines to remain on sale as long as they can only run on synthetic fuels .
