The market is gearing up for Ferrari’s entry into the world of electric cars. The path is being paved and the luxury carmaker’s first vehicle is already on the road, undergoing testing.
"People buy a Ferrari because when they buy a Ferrari, they have a lot of fun." said Benedetto Vigna, CEO of the luxury sports car brand.
With an estimated price tag higher than most wallets can afford, the Italian brand's first electric vehicle has not yet reached the hands of curious customers, but is already on the roads for testing.
According to the company's leader, this first electrified model, developed "in the right way", has already been driven by drivers "several thousand kilometers". According to Vigna, drivers test many cars for comparison, "so for us this is an important metric that we are referring to".
As reported by Electrek, citing information shared by Autocar, Ferrari's first electric vehicle was recently seen being tested with modified elements of the Maserati Levante, suggesting that it could take a similar form.
Despite the price estimate that a Reuters publication reported last month, Vigna said the information came as "a surprise" and did not confirm the price indicated at the time. Advising interested parties and enthusiasts to wait for more details, the Ferrari boss clarified that the company sets the price of a car a month before launching it.
Ferrari's electric car is expected to be shown sometime next year, ahead of sales in 2026. The electric vehicle will be manufactured on a new production line, which is expected to be operational by January 2025.
Meanwhile, rival Lamborghini revealed its first electric vehicle last summer, the Lanzador. This electric "Super SUV" is expected to be launched in 2028.
