Prague – The withdrawal of American President Joe Biden from the candidacy for re-election as President of the United States is the decision of a statesman who has served his country for decades, Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) said on the X network. According to him, this is a responsible and personally difficult step. Biden announced his resignation today on the X Network, now wanting to focus on his responsibilities for the rest of his term. Other Czech politicians from the government coalition described Biden’s decision as statesmanlike, brave and responsible. ANO first vice-chairman Karel Havlíček called him rational and pragmatic on Czech television. ČTK investigates the reaction of President Petr Pavel.
“It is undoubtedly the decision of a statesman who has served his country for decades. It is a responsible and personally difficult step, but it is all the more valuable. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the USA that a good president emerges from the democratic competition of two strong and equal candidates,” wrote Fiala.
The 81-year-old Biden has faced pressure from within his own Democratic Party in recent weeks to withdraw from the race for the White House in connection with his poor performance in a June debate with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
According to Senate President Miloš Vystrčilo (ODS), this is not a surprising step. “I personally consider it a responsible decision, even if it was made at the last minute. Now it depends on how the Democrats and their supporters manage all the other necessary steps and whether their candidate (more likely, the female candidate) will be able to quickly and with sufficient intensity participate in presidential campaign,” he wrote by X
Following his announcement today, Biden expressed his full support for Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee for the November election.
Karel Havlíček considers Biden’s decision to be pragmatic and rational. According to him, this is not a surprise, according to him, Biden has not been in a good mental condition in recent months and it is likely that, in the event of victory, he would not be able to perform the office of President of the USA in the following years. Havlíček said it on Czech television.
“To place the interest of your country and your political party above personal ambition. This is a brave and wise decision. And truly statesmanlike, although it was certainly not easy. Joe Biden is stepping down from the candidacy as a hero,” stated on X Minister of the Interior Vít Rakušan (STAN). According to Minister of Health Vlastimil Válk (TOP 09), Biden’s decision is the pinnacle of statesmanship. “He sacrificed personal ambitions to help his country and the Democrats in the race for the White House and for Congress,” he wrote by X
