Prague – According to Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS), next year will be the year of deciding whether Czechs will believe in themselves, develop all opportunities, help each other and work patiently to make their lives better, or let themselves be disgusted and set off on the way to the East authoritarianism. Fiala said this in his Christmas speech today. He warned against the peddlers of fear, who, according to him, deliberately spread bad moods to arouse envy, hatred and doubt in people. According to him, the government managed to take steps this year to make the Czech Republic a more successful country.
According to Fiala, there is only one right path for the Czech Republic. “It is the path to even greater freedom, to prosperity and personal responsibility. The path of a proud European country and an active civil society,” he said.
According to him, the goal of fear mongers is to make people not trust themselves or others. “Because if enough people doubt like this, our society will weaken it and become easily manipulated. And maybe it will end up going down a dangerous path. A path where people give up responsibility for their lives and hand it over to some leader, as is unfortunately happening again today we see in some European countries,” he said.
A year ago, in a speech, Fiala spoke mainly about hope in connection with this year. From 2024, he expected the constant price hike to end and real wages to start rising. He said today that his promise that things would turn around for the better had come true. “Of course we’re not done yet,” he said. According to the Prime Minister, in the following years, it is necessary to focus on making the healthcare system more efficient, completing the education reform, or facilitating the construction of apartments so that young families can afford their own housing.
According to the prime minister, this year the government managed to take steps that are in the right direction for the Czech Republic to overcome everything that has been holding it back and become even more successful. According to him, this is, for example, the adoption of the pension reform. “We have also definitively overcome huge inflation. So the critical increase in prices has ended, but unfortunately this does not always mean that prices will return to pre-Covid levels. That is why it is important that the increase in real wages continues,” said the Prime Minister. According to him, wages will continue to rise if the Czech Republic does not stop investing responsibly in roads and railways or energy development.
In his speech, Fiala also praised the solidarity of citizens. According to him, the Czechs did not hesitate to help those who found themselves in a difficult situation, whether due to the September floods or the war in Ukraine.
