Fiat 1100 D: sympathetic Italian sedan – In the Wild

Many classic Fiats have passed by in ‘In the Wild’ over the years, but a Fiat 1100 has never been there before. At least, not in original gear. This special creation was perhaps the closest, although it did not have much in common with the 1100 other than the power source. The Fiat 1100 D that we have in front of us here is a lot less rare, but is also anything but a common classic in our country. However, the Fiat 1100 dates from a time when enormous numbers of almost every Fiat model were built, often over long periods of time. The 1100 was also such a long-running model, because it was born in 1953 and would remain in production in its home country of Italy until 1969. In India the 1100 D even lived on until the beginning of this century, as Premier Padmini. The 1100 also had that in common with many other Fiats: there were various derivatives that were extremely successful in markets far from home. Back to the 1100 D that we see before us here. You can recognize that it is an 1100 D by its somewhat sharper creases in the body than previous 1100s. The rounder shapes of the 1950s clearly had to slowly make way for a more angular appearance on the Fiat 1100. This is a car imported in 1998, which ended up with the current owner in 2017. It looks like he’s taking good care of it; what a picture!
