Fiat wants to integrate charging cables directly into electric cars

Fiat wants to integrate charging cables directly into its electric cars to make the charging process easier for users.

The Italian manufacturer wants to make electric cars for everyone, at least that’s what its motto says – Electric mobility for everyone. And to really make them for everyone, Fiat wants to show that electric mobility can be both affordable and practical.

Thus, Fiat wants to include a novel solution in its electric cars. right Engine1, Fiat has decided that it will integrate charging cables inside its cars. It will be placed inside the front and can be accessed by opening a special compartment behind the grille. The solution, which will initially be introduced on the Fiat Grande Panda, will be adopted in the future for other electric models of the brand.

Electric cars from Fiat will have integrated charging cables

Fiat says this system is a smart way to reinvent the way we charge our electric cars. We can see the logic behind this invention, given that very often charging cables can take up valuable space in the car, especially if they don’t have a dedicated compartment. They use up significant space even when folded or stored under the false floor in the trunk, space that could be used to store other items.

However, there is a limiting factor, namely that this integrated cable will only be able to be used for AC charging, with up to 7.4 kWh. If the driver wants to charge the car at a high-speed station, he will have to use the cable already integrated into the charging station. This is because fast charging can cause the cable to heat up, so it is better to have it outside the car.
