Today, the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico, along with a delegation of ministers and a large delegation of businessmen, traveled on an official visit to the People’s Republic of China. At the same time, Fico thanked the Chinese side for the opportunity to make the visit after it was postponed in June due to the assassination. “We have to respect China. It is a country that has 1.5 billion inhabitants, is stable and guarantees peace and a certain balance not only in the region, but throughout the world,” said the prime minister, adding that China is becoming a global player.
Robert Fico ruled out that the trip would be connected to issues of democracy in Slovakia, threats to security or the economy. He said that the nonsensical Green Deal approved by the European Union (EU) threatens Slovakia’s economy more, and the EU will experience difficult economic times in 2025 thanks to it. “Senseless limits, senseless conditions, senseless goals that cannot be fulfilled,” stated the Prime Minister in this regard, adding that we ourselves often put the Union under pressure, for example with plans for additional tariffs on Chinese electric cars. “I believe that the issue of the trade war between China and the EU will be resolved and we will find a common solution,” underlined the Prime Minister.
During his visit to China, Fico plans to sign 13 documents, visit companies with investment intentions in Slovakia and establish relations in the field of student exchange. He will also meet with representatives of China – Prime Minister Li Qiang, President Xi Jinping and Chairman of the Parliament Zhao Leti. Part of the program will also be participation in the international fair in Shanghai. Robert Fico last visited China in 2007.
