Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, who was banned until December 2025 for doping, is returning to training with the national association early. RUSADA General Director Veronika Loginova announced this in an interview with the state news agency “TASS”.
According to the CAS ruling, former Olympic figure skating champion Kamila Valieva will only be allowed to take part in official competitions in and outside Russia again from December 25, 2025. She was allowed to return to training with the Russian national team two months earlier. Veronika Loginova, Director General of the Russian Anti-Doping Authority (RUSADA), explained this in an interview with “TASS”.
“As far as returning to centralized training is concerned, the WADA code said that this can happen two months before the ban expires. In each individual case, we have also contacted WADA again,” said the official.
Valieva was in contact with the figure skating association
The Russian Figure Skating Association has always been in contact with Valieva in recent months, added Loginova, who, however, asserted that the now 18-year-old had only received some form of advice. “For us, a disqualified athlete is not a person with whom dialogue is cut off,” said Loginova.
The extent to which the Russian association and Valieva have adhered to the guidelines since the ban began has been discussed again and again in recent months.
The superstar announced in mid-2024 that she would be competing in various figure skating shows – which she then did. There, it was assumed, Valieva could have worked with trainers who also work in an official role for the national association. According to the regulations, this would have been strictly forbidden. To date, however, there has been no repercussions in this regard.
