Filipe Silva resigns as CEO of Galp – Energia

Filipe Silva is no longer CEO of Galp Energia. Two years and one week after being promoted from CFO to leadership of the oil company, the manager resigned from his position this Tuesday, according to a statement sent by the oil company to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM). Galp Energia will announce his successor in the coming days.

“Galp informs that Filipe Silva has informed the President that he has resigned from the position of President of the Executive Director and Vice-President of the Board of Directors”, says the company’s statement. AND the explanation given for the decision to leave is: “family reasons”

A dismissal which, says Galp, “should take immediate effect”, comes after an internal complaint due to suspected conflicts of interest involving Filipe Silva. The manager allegedly maintained a relationship with a director of the company, not having reported the same to the Ethics Committee.

Filipe Silva, who was out of the country when this case was made public, returned to Portugal to be heard by the Ethics and Conduct Commission, led by Tito Arantes Fontes, former partner at Uría Menéndez who is now president of this body. The urgent meeting took place this Monday, and the CEO decided to leave his position now.

Paula Amorimwhich in a first reaction to the case only highlighted the need for everyone to comply with the Code of Ethics and Conduct, highlights the “contribution that Filipe made to the company over the last 12 yearsa period in which his dedication was important for Galp’s growth.”

New CEO “in the next few days”

Filipe Silva has been in charge of Galp Energia since 2023although he was only formally approved as CEO at the general meeting that same year. The former CFO of the oil company, a position he had held since 2012, succeeded Andy Brown as executive president of the company, who in October 2022 announced that he would end his term on December 31, 2022, “after successfully fulfilling the mission he committed to” .

Andy Brown led Galp Energia for just one year, having replaced Carlos Gomes da Silva who had led Galp Energia for 14 years. It was with Gomes da Silva that the company arrived on the Portuguese capital market, where it remains, but also that it expanded into oil exploration and production, particularly in Brazil’s pre-salt.

With her departure, Paula Amorim guarantees that “Galp’s Executive Committee remains in the hands of a highly qualified teamwhich will guarantee the execution and implementation of the company’s strategy.” And promises speed in replacing the manager: “a new CEO will be announced in the coming days.”
