Film and environmental education

On the weekend of October 19/20, at the Modern cinema (Blvd. Griviței 65, Brașov), children and adults are invited to watch a diverse program of feature films and participate in workshops and discussions related to environmental issues.

Younger children can choose from three feature films dubbed in Romanian. The screening takes place on Saturday at 12:00 Thabo and the case of the rhinoceros (Germany, 2023, directed by Mara Eibl-Eibesfeldt, 97 min, 8 years +, dubbed in Romanian) – an adventure with rhinos and poachers that will whet your appetite for the protection of wild animals and natural areas. The film is followed by a discussion with Nicoleta Marin, coordinator Network for Urban Nature.

Children over 10 years old are invited to watch a title with an impressive track record on Saturday from 3.30 p.m. COCO FARM (Canada, 2023, directed by Sébastien Gagné, 87 min, 10 years +) has been awarded or nominated in many children’s film festivals around the world. The film tells the story of Max, a 12-year-old boy with an entrepreneurial spirit. When he is forced to close the business and move to the country with his father, he finds a new business opportunity: a chicken farm in the abandoned barn of his cousin Charles.

On Sunday from 12:00, children interested in artificial intelligence have the opportunity to watch The Robot Child (Estonia, 2023, directed by Rain Rannu, 96 min, 10 years +) – a 9-year-old girl, on vacation with her parents, discovers a secret bunker, where an AI startup is approaching a breakthrough. The film illustrates what can go wrong with artificial intelligence in an engaging story for children and adults. After the screening, there will be a pro/con debate in partnership with Teach for Romania.

Throughout the weekend, in the foyer of the Modern cinema, there will be art workshops, public readings or book exchanges – children are invited to bring a book and exchange it for another from the festival!

Tickets are on sale on eventbook.
