Square Enix is reconsidering its strategy regarding the exclusivity of the Final Fantasy VII remake. In a recent interview with IGN Brazil, director Yoshinori Kitase stated that Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth and the future chapter they will no longer be able to be tied to a single platform, despite satisfactory sales.
Kitase explained that in the current gaming industry, with the high development costs for games of this magnitudestaying tied to a single platform is counterproductive. Square Enix seems intent on moving beyond the concept of exclusives to reach a wider audience.
“We cannot continue to be tied exclusively to a single platform”
“While we are confident and pleased to reach a certain level of sales, it is clear that in the modern era of game development we cannot continue to be tied exclusively to a single platform” Kitase said. “I think we will have to offer the game to as many players as possible.”
This statement aligns with Square Enix’s new corporate visionwhich emerged after the arrival of new CEO Takashi Kiryu. The company has repeatedly expressed the need to move beyond the exclusives strategy to broaden its potential audience.
Although the precise details are not yet clear, these claims suggest that Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 could be released simultaneously on multiple platforms. It is possible to hypothesize a simultaneous launch on PC and PlayStation, with potential versions for Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2, if technically feasible.
This move would represent a significant shift from Square Enix’s previous strategies. Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth (which you can find on Amazon) e Final Fantasy 16for example, they remained tied to exclusivity agreements with PlayStationthe terms of which were never made public.
Square Enix’s decision to widening distribution of its flagship titles reflects a broader trend in the video game industrywhere exclusives are becoming less common in favor of greater cross-platform accessibility.
