- WhatsApp is testing a new “Chat Theme” feature to customize the look of conversations
- Users will be able to change the colors of text bubbles and backgrounds
- The feature is currently available in beta for both Android and iOS
Looks like WhatsApp has finally heard the pleas of the users and is about to bring a long awaited feature to the app – possibility to customize the appearance of chats. This novelty, called simply “Chat theme” (in English “Chat theme”), was revealed in the latest beta version of the application for Android (2.24.17.19) and iOS (24.11.10.70).
What exactly is it about? Users will be able to change the color of the text bubbles and even the chat wallpaper. So far, it looks like it will mainly be monochrome themes, similar to those we know from Messenger or Instagram. Full-fledged themes would be better, but it is definitely a step in the right direction. In addition, the function currently applies to all chats at once. So you can’t set a different color for a conversation with mom and a different color for a workgroup. According to the WeBetaInfo website, which was the first to draw attention to this news, this could change in the future.
Those in the know may recall that WhatsApp has experimented with skin customization in the past. In 2020, we waited dark modewhich, however, was more of a functional than an aesthetic matter.
The question remains when we will see this feature in the stable version of the application. Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has a habit of testing new features in beta versions for several months before releasing them to all users. We can only hope that given the relative simplicity of this feature, it could arrive fairly soon.
Would you appreciate the ability to further customize chats in WhatsApp?
